Remember those tear-out pinup posters from your uncle’s collection? Those first inspired nudes of Marilyn Monroe? Thus began the story of the PLAYBOY Playmate Centerfold back in 1953, and our very own local beauties follow in those footsteps here in a conceptual project inspired by mixing the new with the nostalgic. Six South African Playmates (Yolandi Malherbe, Wendy Du Toit, Jade Fairbrother, Mpho Tsila, Kate Lovemore and Yolandi Wiggett) took it all off in the name of art for our new photographer Leah Hawker in this retro series of work forming part of an exhibition titled “Nostalgia Now” for the triennial Cape Town Month of Photography held all over the Mother City during October. We featured some of Leah’s work in our May issue and Jade Fairbrother and Marissa Christopher‘s shoots, if you’ll remember, and she’s all about women, sensuality and gender, which is why we love her stuff so much.
Hair and make-up by Colleen van Rensburg, Samantha Brownell and Chantal Morgan.
