It has been rumoured and finalized, the legendary funk rockers and true playboys of modern rock, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, are coming to South Africa. Big concerts officially announced the big news over Twitter and Facebook today, and has been met with great excitement.
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers formed in 1983 as one of the progenitors of what came to be known as “Funk Rock” and they’ve gone on to be one of the most influential bands of the Alternative Rock explosion of the 1990′s. With the release of their 1991 album Blood Sugar Sex Magik, which sold 15 million copies, they exploded and achieved critical and commercial success.
In 2011 they released their tenth album I’m With You and in April of this year were inducted into the Rock n Roll hall of fame. They’ve won six Grammy’s including Best Rock Album for Stadium Arcadium and Best Rock song for Scar Tissue.
And now Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Josh Klinghoffer and Chad Smith will be hitting South African shores in February of 2013 with opener and Zef collective Die Antwoord.
