Cardi B Won’t Be Held Back
Last week, Cardi B made history by becoming the first woman to have her first three appearances on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Song chart at the same time. Her single, “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” is in the #2 spot, “Motorsport” with Migos and Nicki Minaj is at #5, and G-Eazy’s “No Limit” featuring Cardi and A$AP Rocky is at #10.
Fans can’t get enough of Cardi B—and it’s not just because they like her music. The 25-year-old rapper seems to say exactly what she’s thinking at any given moment, and she’s just as unfiltered on social media. (Last night she posted a meme about the best way to poop in the shower.)
Cardi B is on the cover of New York magazine this week, and in the interview, she seems unchanged by her rise to fame. She talks fondly of her stripper days, and says that when men threw money at her because she looked good, “It’s just like when the rice is getting thrown at the bride.”
She tells the magazine that when “Bodak Yellow” hit number one, she bought herself a Patek Philippe watch. When she lost it, she felt like she “just got fucked in the heart. Without a condom. Without lubricant. With a yeast infection.”
At another point in the interview, she addresses critics who think she’s a one-hit wonder, saying, “I hate that people are trying to make excuses as to why [“Bodak Yellow”] went No. 1. You know why? Because every time you hear it, your pussy pops. Your dick, it get up. Stop trying to discredit it.”
Yeah, she can be kind of crude, but so what? With a voice that honest and direct, there’s no way Cardi will be a one-hit wonder. She has a lot more to say, and the world is listening.
